sudden spell of rain lashed Hyderabad on Wednesday evening, with northern and western parts of the city experiencing the earliest impact. What began as light scattered showers soon intensified, spreading into the city’s central zones and causing widespread disruption.
Areas such as Serilingampally, Miyapur, Chandanagar, Kukatpally, and RC Puram witnessed heavy rainfall. Parts of Secunderabad, including Uppal, Kapra, Musheerabad, Osmania University surroundings, and Malkajgiri, were also badly affected as the showers strengthened.
Data from the Telangana State Development Planning Society showed that JP Nagar Community Hall in Chandanagar recorded the highest rainfall at 97.5 mm. Other significant figures included 82.3 mm at MMTS Lingampally, 81.3 mm at the University of Hyderabad in Serilingampally, 66.5 mm in Gachibowli, and 64.8 mm at PJR Stadium in Chandanagar.
Several localities in Secunderabad also received heavy showers, including Marredpally, Trimulgherry, Alwal, ECIL crossroads, Dr. A.S. Rao Nagar, Safilguda, Moula Ali, Kapra, Tarnaka, and Habsiguda.
The downpour led to severe waterlogging on many arterial and inner roads, forcing traffic to move at a snail’s pace. Commuters struggled to navigate flooded stretches, and motorists were left stranded in several low-lying areas. Power supply disruptions were also reported from multiple neighbourhoods, adding to the difficulties caused by the rain.
