Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu has announced that Noida’s international airport, also known as Jewar airport, will be inaugurated on October 30.
Commercial operations are expected to begin within 45 days of the inauguration, with flight services initially connecting to 10 major cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Discussions have already taken place with IndiGo and Air India Express regarding the launch of these routes.
The upcoming airport will be connected through six major roads as well as a rapid rail-cum-metro link and pod taxi services. Once functional, the airport will operate under the code ‘DXN’.
Trial runs were carried out in December last year when a commercial aircraft successfully landed on the newly built runway. In July, airport authorities also issued an advisory to builders, local bodies, and other stakeholders to maintain height restrictions within a 20-kilometer radius of the facility.
Minister Naidu further revealed that Hindon airport in Ghaziabad is set for expansion, with a request already submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government for nine acres of additional land. The plan includes increasing the parking capacity to better handle passenger traffic.
He also announced new facilities to improve travel convenience nationwide. Free Wi-Fi services will be rolled out across all airports in the next two months, while libraries are also planned to provide passengers with added amenities during transit.
