Netanyahu rejects claims of Israeli link to Charlie Kirk’s assassination, hints at Qatari involvement
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly denied speculation that Israel was behind the killing of U.S. conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He described the circulating allegations as “disgusting” and “outrageous,” and suggested that Qatar could be behind efforts to spread them.
Rumors, though unsupported by evidence, began circulating online accusing Israel of targeting Kirk because of his occasional criticism of Israeli policies, according to the Times of Israel. Addressing the matter in a video posted on the Prime Minister’s official X account, Netanyahu said: “Someone fabricated a monstrous lie claiming Israel was involved in Charlie Kirk’s horrific murder. This is insane, false, and unacceptable.”
He went on to add: “Some people are pushing these vile rumors — perhaps due to obsession, perhaps with Qatari funding. Charlie Kirk deserves honor, not lies.”
The comments came shortly after Israel launched a strike in Qatar on September 9 aimed at Hamas leadership.
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during a public speaking engagement at Utah University on September 10. Police later arrested the suspected gunman, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who surrendered the following evening.
Following the assassination, Netanyahu paid tribute to Kirk on X, calling him a “lion-hearted friend of Israel.” In his post, the Prime Minister recalled inviting Kirk to Israel just two weeks prior to his death, praising his dedication to free speech, Judeo-Christian values, and his deep pride in America. “We lost an extraordinary individual,” Netanyahu wrote. “His courage and commitment will leave a lasting legacy. May he rest in peace.”
