Even though Oman faced defeat against the Indian cricket team led by Suryakumar Yadav in the last Group A match of the Asia Cup 2025 in Abu Dhabi on Friday, Aamir Kaleem from Oman made history. He became the oldest player to score a half-century against a full-member nation.
In the match between India and Oman, Kaleem played a remarkable innings, scoring 64 runs from just 46 balls at a strike rate of 139.13. His knock included 7 boundaries and 2 sixes, proving that age is no limitation for talent. At 43 years and 303 days old, he set the record as the oldest player to score a T20I fifty against a full-member team.
While chasing a target of 189, Oman's batsmen Jatinder Singh (32), Aamir Kaleem (64), and Hammad Mirza (51) put up a strong fight, but the team could only manage 167 for 4 wickets, falling short by 21 runs against India.
Other veteran players who achieved notable T20I half-centuries at an advanced age include:
Mohammad Nabi from Afghanistan scored a blazing 60 from 22 balls against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi at 40 years and 260 days.
Mohammad Hafeez of Pakistan recorded a T20I fifty against New Zealand with 99 not out at 40 years and 64 days. He also scored 86 not out at 39 years and 320 days, and 69 at 39 years and 318 days against England.
Sanath Jayasuriya, the Sri Lankan legend, was 39 years and 345 days old when he played an 81-run innings against the West Indies at Nottingham in 2009, making him the oldest at the time to hit a T20 fifty.
Trent Johnston, former Ireland captain, scored 62 off 32 balls versus Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi in 2013 at the age of 39 years and 215 days.
Tillakaratne Dilshan, another Sri Lankan star, achieved a T20I fifty at Eden Gardens in 2016, remaining unbeaten on 83 against Afghanistan at 39 years and 155 days old.
