HYDERABAD: Telangana is drawing up a detailed roadmap to establish itself as both a national and international eco-tourism hub, according to Forest, Environment and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha.
Speaking at the Secretariat Eco-Tourism Project Screening Committee meeting, the minister said that eco-tourism in the state must go beyond showcasing natural beauty. She emphasized that projects should also reflect the cultural and spiritual richness of Telangana, particularly in temple areas, blending nature with heritage to create holistic experiences for visitors.
Several sites across the state have been earmarked for development into world-class eco-tourism destinations. The projects under review include Ananthagiri in Vikarabad, Kanakagiri in Khammam, Nandipet in Nizamabad, Mannanur Jungle Resort in Nagarkurnool, Muchcherla Eco Park and Vizag Colony in Nalgonda, Manjeera Wildlife Sanctuary in Sangareddy, and Amaragiri.
Officials reported that the first phase of development at Ananthagiri Hills has been completed, while the upcoming phase will feature caravan camping and eco-cottages. Work on the Kanakagiri project is expected to begin in October 2025. Muchcherla Eco Park is being planned with attractions such as a Night Safari, VR Park, and Dinosaur Park. Progress at Manjeera Wildlife Sanctuary has been delayed due to land acquisition issues.
Other potential eco-tourism destinations under consideration include Domalapenta, Pakala Lake, Kinnerasani, Nagarjunasagar, Vanasthali, and Niladri Hills. Surekha underlined that the overall vision is to position Telangana as a unique eco-tourism hub where natural landscapes, cultural traditions, and spiritual heritage come together for both domestic and international travelers.
