Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that certificate courses will soon be introduced at the Maharashtra State Skills University (MSSU) to prepare trained professionals for the gems and jewellery sector.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of a gems and jewellery exhibition at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. Fadnavis noted that the jewellery industry holds a strong position globally and said that aligning academic training with industry requirements would create steady growth while expanding opportunities for the state’s youth.
In addition to the training initiative, the government is setting up a modern Gems and Jewellery Park at Mahape in Navi Mumbai. According to Fadnavis, the facility will provide world-class infrastructure for businesses and exporters, boosting both production and exports.
He further said that the administration is working closely with the Gems and Jewellery Association to make the sector more employment-driven. The chief minister also highlighted ongoing reforms, including simplified licensing rules and streamlined land acquisition procedures aimed at accelerating new projects.
To monitor progress on these reforms, the government has created an “Ease of Doing Business War Room” at Mantralaya. Officials said this mechanism ensures that policy changes are effectively implemented on the ground.
India already holds a leading position in the global gems and jewellery trade, with exports playing a vital role in the national economy. Maharashtra’s new initiatives are expected to further strengthen this industry’s contribution.
