Apple’s newest software update, iOS 26, introduces bold design changes along with the new Liquid Glass interface. While the visual overhaul has captured attention, many users have reported performance issues including occasional lags and minor glitches in everyday use. This is common with major iOS releases, as initial versions often have some bugs, but users who find the experience unsatisfactory have the option to revert to a previous version.
Apple is still signing iOS 18.6.2, which means it is possible to downgrade from iOS 26. However, this process requires caution because it is not straightforward and carries some risks. Reports, including one from WCCFtech, highlight that all data on the device will be erased during the downgrade. Users are strongly advised to create multiple backups of important data such as photos, notes, and voice recordings before proceeding.
To revert from iOS 26 to iOS 18.6.2, follow these steps carefully. First, back up your iPhone using iCloud, Finder on a Mac, or iTunes on Windows. Having more than one backup is recommended to ensure security. Next, disable Find My iPhone in the Settings and sign out of your Apple ID to prevent activation lock issues.
Download the correct IPSW firmware file for iOS 18.6.2 from Apple’s official website or IPSW.me. Make sure the file matches your iPhone model and that Apple is still signing that version. Connect your iPhone to a Mac or Windows PC using a Lightning or USB-C cable and ensure that Finder or iTunes recognizes the device.
Enter DFU mode by quickly pressing and releasing the Volume Up button, then the Volume Down button. Hold the Side button until the screen goes black. Next, press and hold Volume Down while keeping the Side button pressed for five seconds. Release the Side button but continue holding Volume Down until your device appears in Finder.
Start the restoration process. On a Mac, open Finder, hold the Option key and select Restore iPhone. On Windows, launch iTunes, hold the Shift key, click Restore, and select the iOS 18.6.2 IPSW file you downloaded. Your iPhone will restart multiple times during the downgrade.
After the installation is complete, you can restore your backup or set up your device as new, depending on your preference.
