Bank Holiday Update: Navratri Day 3 on September 24
Today marks the third day of Navratri celebrations, September 24. However, this day is not a bank holiday. Banks across India, including the State Bank of India, remain open today since it is not a holiday designated by the Reserve Bank of India
Banks in India close only on holidays officially announced by the RBI. These include all Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, and other special regional holidays. According to RBI guidelines, the next scheduled bank closure this week will be during the weekend on September 27 and 28

On September 18, which falls on Thursday, banks in Shillong will remain closed to observe Unitarian Anniversary Day, commemorating the establishment of the Unitarian Church in 1887
On September 22, Monday, banks in Jaipur will be closed for Navratra Sthapna, marking the start of Navratri celebrations
On September 23, Tuesday, banks across Jammu and Srinagar will observe a holiday for the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last ruling monarch of Jammu and Kashmir
On September 29, Monday, banks in Agartala, Kolkata, and Guwahati will remain closed in observance of Maha Saptami, the seventh day of Durga Puja
On September 30, Tuesday, multiple cities including Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Imphal, Jaipur, Kolkata, Patna, and Ranchi will observe a closure for Maha Ashtami or Durga Ashtami, the eighth day of Navratri and Durga Puja
Sundays are bank holidays across India on September 7, 14, 21, and 28. Saturdays that are RBI-designated holidays fall on September 13 and 27
What to Do When Banks Are Closed
Even on national holidays, online and mobile banking services continue to operate unless technical maintenance or issues are announced. ATMs remain accessible for cash withdrawals, and app-based payments and UPI services function as usual
The RBI and state governments determine bank holidays based on national and local events, operational requirements, religious occasions, and other cultural celebrations. Official notifications are published on the RBI website and shared with banks and financial institutions
