Amazon apologises for selling doormats having Indian flag print

Now Amazon has realised its mistake and written an apology letter to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

"Amazon India is committed to respecting Indian laws and customs. To the extent that these items offered by a third-party seller in Canada offended Indian sensibilities, Amazon regrets the same. At no time did we intend or mean to offend Indian sentiments," Amazon India vice president Amit Agarwal wrote to Ms Swaraj said in a letter.

The company had also dropped the Indian flag-themed doormats from its website.

Earlier this week, Amazon was asked by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to tender unconditional apology for selling India flag doormat on its website in Canada.

The minister had also warned the company that the government might revoke visa to Amazon's employee in future if the requests are not accepted.

"Amazon must tender unconditional apology. They must withdraw all products insulting our national flag immediately," Swaraj said.

"If this is not done forthwith, we will not grant Indian Visa to any Amazon official. We will also rescind the Visas issued earlier, "she added.

This came after Atul Bhobe posted a tweet on Twitter saying, "Madam. Amazon Canada must be censured and warned not to sell India flag doormats. Please take action."
