Modi’s Multilingual Praise for Trump’s Gaza Peace Proposal Sparks Diplomatic Attention
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s enthusiastic multilingual support for United States President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan has attracted considerable attention in diplomatic circles. Modi described Trump’s 20-point proposal as a “viable pathway” to lasting peace, posting messages in seven different languages on both his personal and official X accounts. The posts appeared in English, Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Russian.
This rare seven-language outreach highlighted Modi’s intention to project strong Indian backing for Trump’s Middle East initiative. He directly thanked Trump while calling on all stakeholders to come together in support of the plan. In the English message on his personal account, Modi commended Trump’s “comprehensive” framework, emphasizing its potential to ensure long-term peace, stability, and progress for Palestinians, Israelis, and the broader West Asian region.
Observers noted that this warmth stands in sharp contrast to Modi’s earlier position when Trump claimed he had mediated between India and Pakistan following India’s cross-border strikes under Operation Sindoor. New Delhi had immediately denied such claims, clarifying that India had never sought third-party involvement and reiterating that issues with Pakistan remained strictly bilateral. At that time, Modi firmly dismissed Trump’s remarks and refrained from extending any public gratitude.
In contrast, Pakistan openly welcomed Trump’s statement. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the supposed mediation, while Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir even suggested that Trump deserved consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize.
