Selectors to Decide on Rohit Sharma’s Future as ODI Captain Ahead of Australia Tour
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli may make a comeback to India’s squad as the Men in Blue gear up for their white-ball series against Australia later this year. The All-India Selection Committee is likely to announce the squads on Saturday for the much-anticipated tour.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, one of the key topics of discussion among selectors will be whether Rohit Sharma should continue as India’s ODI captain, especially with the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup on the horizon. The committee reportedly plans to have a direct conversation with the 38-year-old before making a final decision. Notably, Rohit recently cleared his fitness test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had retired from T20 Internationals after India’s triumph over South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Their potential return to the ODI setup will add significant experience and depth to the squad.
Fans will also be keeping a close watch on whether Shreyas Iyer finds a place in the T20I lineup. Iyer’s inclusion in the ODI squad appears almost certain, considering his strong showing in the Champions Trophy, where he emerged as India’s top run-getter. Meanwhile, selectors may also look to include Yashasvi Jaiswal, with the flexibility to name an extended squad for the series.

The tour will begin with a three-match ODI series starting October 19 in Perth, followed by a five-match T20I series from October 29 in Canberra, concluding on November 8 at the Brisbane Cricket Ground.
