PM Modi Hails Trump’s Role as Hamas Accepts Parts of Gaza Peace Proposal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded United States President Donald Trump for his efforts toward achieving peace in Gaza, shortly after Hamas agreed to portions of Trump’s proposed 20-point peace framework.
In a post shared on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “We welcome President Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress. The signs of hostages being released represent a meaningful step forward. India will continue to strongly back all initiatives aimed at ensuring lasting and just peace.”
Earlier this week, PM Modi had publicly endorsed Trump’s plan for resolving the Gaza conflict, describing it as a viable path toward stability for both Israelis and Palestinians. “We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive roadmap to end the Gaza conflict. It offers a credible path to enduring peace, security, and development for both the Palestinian and Israeli people, as well as the larger West Asian region. We hope all stakeholders unite behind this initiative to end violence and secure peace,” Modi wrote in another post on X.
Trump later reshared the Indian Prime Minister’s statement on his Truth Social platform without any added remarks.
On Friday evening, Hamas announced its acceptance of several aspects of Trump’s peace plan. The accepted provisions include a ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees, facilitation of humanitarian assistance and reconstruction, and opposition to any displacement of Palestinians from the region. The announcement came only hours after Trump issued a public deadline to the group, warning that if it failed to agree to his proposal by Sunday, 6 p.m. (US time), it would face “severe consequences.”
Trump’s Statement
Following Hamas’ partial acceptance, President Trump urged Israel to immediately halt airstrikes in Gaza to ensure the safe release of hostages and expressed optimism about achieving long-term peace.
“Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza so that we can safely and quickly bring the hostages home. At present, it’s too dangerous to do that. We’re already discussing the final details. This effort is not limited to Gaza—it’s about lasting peace in the Middle East,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
In a separate video message, the former U.S. President extended gratitude to the nations that assisted in facilitating the talks, including Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan. “I want to thank all the countries that helped make this possible. Many worked tirelessly to bring this together. It’s a historic moment. We’ll see how it unfolds, but we are very close to peace. Most importantly, I look forward to seeing the hostages return home to their families,” he stated.
Calling it “a very special day,” Trump added, “This is an unprecedented step forward. The global community came together to end this war and pursue peace in the Middle East. We’re close to making it happen, and everyone involved will be treated fairly.”
