West Indies Players Wear Black Armbands to Honor Bernard Julien on Day 1 of 2nd Test Against India
On the first day of the second Test between India and West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday, the West Indies team wore black armbands to pay tribute to former all-rounder Bernard Julien, who passed away last week. Julien was part of the legendary West Indies squad that won the 1975 World Cup under Clive Lloyd’s captaincy.
“An all-rounder, Julien made his debut for West Indies in 1973, featuring in 24 Tests and 12 ODIs. He scored 866 runs in Tests and 86 in ODIs while taking 30 Test wickets and 18 ODI scalps,” Cricket West Indies said in an official statement.
Earlier, Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bat, marking the first time he has won a toss as India’s captain. The 25-year-old, who began his full-time captaincy during the England tour, had lost six consecutive tosses before this victory. India currently leads the two-match series 1-0, having won the first Test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 140 runs.
While India fielded an unchanged playing XI, the West Indies made two changes, bringing in Tevin Imlach and Anderson Phillip in place of Brandon King and Johann Layne.
