The government is planning to make your overseas travel expensive by increasing the service tax on tour operator by 4-5 percent from the next week. So, the tour package which cost Rs 1 lakh would cost you around Rs 4000-5000 dearer from the next week.

"The resultant doubling of tax rate on the sector... will see a corresponding increase in tour pricing, which will in turn be passed onto customers," Mahesh Iyer Thomas Cook (India) COO said.

The tour operators fear fall in outbound travels by Indians as the air fare might also increase due to fall in rupee in international markets and rising oil prices.
