Tamil Nadu Health Minister K G Arunraj has said that the ruling alliance will introduce a common name for the coalition at a meeting scheduled for September 9, with the aim of giving the group a clear and separate political identity. According to Arunraj, alliance partners had been seeking a unified name and the government felt that establishing a distinct identity was important. He also said Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay would respond in the Assembly to the recent allegations regarding law and order raised by Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin. Arunraj said the Chief Minister would address the concerns raised by the opposition as well as explain the government's position to the people. Criticising the opposition's remarks, the minister described them as an effort to gain political advantage through statements that, according to him, did not reflect public sentiment. Arunraj also rejected the DMK's accusations concerning law and order and attributed its electoral defeat in part to what he called poor handling of the situation. He claimed that the previous government had faced difficulties in appointing a regular Director General of Police, while the present administration had appointed a police chief quickly and introduced measures including a special task force focused on women's safety and efforts against drug related problems. On the proposed second greenfield airport for Chennai, Arunraj clarified that the government was not opposed to the project but had raised objections over the previously selected location and the process followed to choose the site. He said officials were currently examining alternative locations for the airport. The minister also said Chief Minister Vijay's forthcoming official visit to London would be aimed at attracting investment to Tamil Nadu, including funding for sports infrastructure, with the broader objective of improving facilities in the state. Arunraj said the alliance was therefore working toward establishing a formal identity while the government continued to address political criticism in the Assembly and advance its plans for investment and infrastructure development.
