Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) witnessed buying interest in Friday's trading session after the railway public sector undertaking announced that it had secured a Letter of Award worth ₹903 crore, including GST, from SJVN Thermal Private Ltd for a railway infrastructure project in Bihar. RVNL shares opened at ₹216.20 on the BSE, compared with the previous closing price of ₹212. The stock subsequently reached an intraday high of ₹216.50, marking a rise of 2.12 per cent. The company stated that the Letter of Award was issued by SJVN Thermal Private Ltd, which operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd. The contract covers the construction of a permanent siding along with an aerial rail track connection extending from the plant boundary towards Chausa and Pawani Kamarpur in Buxar, Bihar. The infrastructure work forms part of the 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project. As mentioned in RVNL's exchange filing, the total value of the contract stands at ₹903.01 crore, inclusive of GST. The project is expected to be completed within 36 months and has been awarded as part of the company's regular business operations. Under the contract, RVNL will construct a permanent siding and develop an aerial track connection between the plant boundary and Chausa and Pawani Kamarpur. These works are intended to support the rail connectivity requirements of the Buxar Thermal Power Project. The latest contract follows another development involving RVNL last week, when the company was declared the lowest bidder for a railway infrastructure project awarded by East Coast Railway. The project has a total value of ₹404.88 crore, including GST, with an expected completion period of 30 months. The East Coast Railway contract covers several infrastructure activities, including roadbed construction, major and minor bridges, road under bridges and limited height subways, building related works, ballast supply and permanent way linking. The scope of the project also includes shifting of utilities, signalling and telecommunication work, electrification, power supply arrangements and alterations involving high tension and low tension lines. The project is associated with the development of a third railway line between Nergundi and Barang as well as Khurda Road and Vizianagaram. The work forms part of the 385 kilometre Bhadrak to Vizianagaram railway section.
