On the day he completed his 100th First Class match in the Duleep Trophy final, South Zone leg spinner Shreyas Gopal said he was pleased to demonstrate that wrist spinners can enjoy successful and lengthy careers in red ball cricket.Shreyas revealed that he had previously been told that very few leg spinners manage to play between 30 and 50 matches. That motivated him to prove that wrist spinners can succeed in the longer format as well. He said he had worked extensively on improving his bowling.The 33 year old enjoyed an outstanding Ranji Trophy campaign last season. He picked up 48 wickets and contributed 469 runs, playing an important part in Karnataka's journey to the final.Speaking about the improvements he has made to his game, Shreyas explained that he has focused on becoming tactically stronger. He has worked on using the crease effectively, reading match situations and making better decisions about when to attack and when to defend.According to him, having a clear plan usually works well, although there are occasions when things do not go according to expectations. He believes entering the game with a proper strategy provides him with a clear sense of direction.Shreyas also guided Mangaluru Dragons to victory in the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 tournament last year. He credited his time with Chennai Super Kings and the experience of interacting with M.S. Dhoni for helping him develop as a player.He said he had asked Dhoni numerous questions over the past two years and tried to apply those lessons in his own approach. While he did not attribute the team's success entirely to that experience, he acknowledged that some of the decisions he made would probably not have been possible without his time with CSK.Meanwhile, East Zone batter Shikhar Mohan was happy to continue the form he showed during his first Ranji Trophy season last year. He had scored 613 runs in that campaign and produced another impressive performance by making 85 on the opening day.Shikhar said his main objective before the match was to carry his Ranji Trophy form into the Duleep Trophy. He also credited Ishan Kishan for providing valuable guidance during their innings. Kishan helped him understand which shots were appropriate in different situations, and Shikhar said that advice contributed to their strong partnership.
