Stellantis is recalling more than 200,000 Jeep vehicles in the United States because of a software problem that can prevent the tire pressure monitoring system from warning drivers about low tire pressure.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the defect could increase the risk of a crash and means the affected vehicles do not meet federal safety requirements for tire pressure monitoring systems.

The recall covers 201,976 vehicles, including certain Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L and Grand Cherokee 4XE models. Certain Wagoneer L, Grand Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer L, Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer L PHEV vehicles are also included.

According to NHTSA, the software malfunction may stop the monitoring system from detecting low tire pressure or activating the warning for drivers. This could leave drivers unaware of a potentially unsafe tire condition.

Dealers will correct the problem by updating the radio frequency hub software. The repair will be provided to vehicle owners free of charge.

Stellantis is carrying out the recall to address the safety issue and bring the affected vehicles into compliance with US federal requirements.
