Indian electric motorcycle company Ultraviolette Automotive is planning to invest about $82 million in a new manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, as demand for electric two wheelers continues to increase.

The proposed factory will initially be capable of producing 250,000 vehicles annually. The company plans to eventually expand that capacity to 500,000 vehicles.

The investment is part of Ultraviolette’s effort to move further into the mass market and meet rising demand for upcoming products such as the Tesseract scooter and Shockwave motorcycle.

The company’s current facility near Bengaluru can manufacture up to 50,000 vehicles each year. Ultraviolette is backed by Qualcomm and TVS Motor.

Electric two wheelers are becoming increasingly popular in India. More than 1.03 million electric two wheelers were sold during the first eight months of 2026.

Ultraviolette sold more than 3,000 vehicles globally during the first half of 2026. The company expects monthly demand for its scooters in India to reach at least 10,000 units and plans to increase exports to Europe and Latin America over the next five years.
