The global battery manufacturing industry is seeing another major development as Indian solar manufacturer Premier Energies has entered into an agreement with Germany’s RCT Group to establish a battery energy storage manufacturing facility in Telangana.

The proposed joint venture will focus on battery energy storage systems that can be used by commercial customers, industrial users and large utility projects. The planned facility is expected to have a total manufacturing capacity of 12 GWh, with the first phase planned at 6 GWh.

The project represents an important expansion for Premier Energies as the company moves beyond its traditional focus on solar cells and modules. Battery storage is becoming increasingly important as countries add more renewable power generation to their electricity systems.

The joint venture will operate through Premier Battery Technologies, a subsidiary of Premier Energies. RCT Group brings experience from battery storage projects in international markets, particularly in Europe.
