Alexander Zverev has reached the US Open men's singles final after defeating Karen Khachanov in straight sets.

The German top seed won the semifinal 6 3, 7 6, 7 6 in a closely contested match at Flushing Meadows. Khachanov pushed Zverev hard during the two tie breaks, but Zverev remained composed and secured his place in the championship match.

The victory takes Zverev into his second US Open final. He had previously reached the final in New York in 2020, when he finished as runner up.

Zverev has also been in strong form at the Grand Slam tournaments this year. After a difficult opening to the US Open, where he needed five sets in each of his first two matches, he has now won four consecutive matches without dropping a set.

The German player is also the reigning French Open champion and has reached his third consecutive Grand Slam final.

Zverev will now wait for his opponent in Sunday's final. The other men's semifinal features American players Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe.

The upcoming final gives Zverev another opportunity to add a second Grand Slam title to his career.
