Germany and the United Arab Emirates are expanding their energy partnership through a series of agreements covering renewable power and natural gas.
The new cooperation comes as both countries look to strengthen their economic relationship and support Germany’s industrial sector. The agreements form part of a wider investment plan worth around €40 billion aimed at supporting business and industry in Germany.
German energy company RWE has signed an agreement with UAE backed renewable energy company Masdar to explore joint participation in German offshore wind auctions planned for 2027. The projects could involve more than €3 billion in potential investment.
RWE has also reached an agreement with ADNOC to explore future supplies of liquefied natural gas. The planned cooperation builds on an earlier framework between the two companies and could lead to LNG supply arrangements for Europe and Asia from the early 2030s.
The UAE’s international energy company XRG and Germany’s state owned SEFE have also agreed to examine opportunities for greater cooperation in gas and LNG.
In another major development, Masdar and German energy company Luxcara agreed to assess possible joint investments of more than €5 billion in offshore wind and energy storage projects.
The agreements reflect the growing focus on energy security, renewable power and long term cooperation between Germany and the UAE. They also show how European countries and Gulf energy companies are looking for new partnerships as global energy markets face continued uncertainty.
