Boeing and the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, known as SPEEA, have reached a tentative agreement on a new four year contract, marking a major development in negotiations between the aircraft manufacturer and its engineering workforce.

The latest proposal offers higher general wage increases than Boeing’s earlier contract offer. SPEEA members had strongly rejected the previous proposal in an August 21 vote, putting pressure on both sides to return to negotiations and find a revised agreement.

The new deal is expected to provide a 10% general wage increase from October 16, followed by 4% annual wage increases along with merit based raises through 2030. The proposal also includes changes related to working from home and limits on overtime.

The agreement comes as Boeing and the union work to avoid a possible strike. The current contract is scheduled to expire on October 6, meaning union members will need to approve the new proposal before then to prevent further labor uncertainty.

SPEEA represents about 17,000 engineers and technical employees at Boeing. These workers play an important role in the company's engineering and aircraft certification work, including efforts involving the 737 MAX 10 and 777 9 programs.

The latest agreement is also significant because it follows months of negotiations. Boeing and SPEEA had previously reached agreements on several non wage issues, including flexible work arrangements, overtime limits and retirement related matters.

Union officials said employee feedback played an important role in shaping the revised proposal, particularly concerns about general wage increases and compensation. The latest offer therefore represents a stronger wage proposal than the one rejected by members in August.

The agreement is still tentative and must go through the union’s approval process. If members ratify the contract, it would provide a new framework for wages and working conditions for the next four years and remove the immediate threat of a strike.
