Going by the media reports, British telecom giant Vodafone and Idea Cellular are likely to collaborate to give stiff competition to rivals like Airtel and Jio.
“Vodafone confirms that it is in discussions with the Aditya Birla Group about an all share merger of Vodafone India (excluding Vodafone's 42 per cent stake in Indus Towers) and Idea. Any merger would be effected through the issue of new shares in Idea to Vodafone and would result in Vodafone deconsolidating Vodafone India."
This has comes at a time when Reliance Jio Infocommm has made a rocking entry into the market, which has already led to consolidation of the telecom industry in the country.
The merger of the two giants in India could lead to a new number one telecom operator by subscribers and revenue market share, displacing Airtel.
