A South Korean memory chip manufacturer is considering establishing a new NAND flash memory production facility in the United States. Upstate New York has emerged as one of the locations being considered for the possible project.
The proposed facility would be separate from the company’s discussions involving another US manufacturing site. A new American plant could reduce the company’s dependence on its existing NAND production facility in Dalian, China.
The company has not finalised the investment or confirmed the location. The plan is being considered as demand for memory chips grows because of artificial intelligence data centres and as manufacturers face increasing pressure to expand semiconductor production in the United States.
