The Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment Bill, 2026, held its first meeting in New Delhi on Friday. The panel was briefed by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs about the key provisions of the proposed legislation.
The meeting was chaired by Lok Sabha MP Sanjay Jaiswal. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Jaiswal said the discussions took place in a cordial atmosphere and that members raised several questions during the briefing.
The committee has 31 members, including 21 from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha. Parliament had referred the Bill to the Joint Parliamentary Committee on August 12 for detailed examination.
The proposed legislation seeks to amend the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010, with the stated objective of improving transparency and accountability in the use of foreign contributions. The committee is expected to examine the provisions of the Bill before submitting its report to Parliament.
