The United States and Czech Republic ended the opening day of their Davis Cup qualifying tie with one win each in Prague. Learner Tien gave the American team an early advantage by defeating Jakub Mensik 6 2, 6 4.

Jiri Lehecka then brought the Czech team level by beating Ben Shelton 6 4, 6 4. The tie will be decided through the remaining doubles and singles matches.
