The Ministry of Rural Development is set to begin skill training for nearly 34,000 rural youth under the second phase of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana from next month across most States and Union Territories. Preparations for the new training batches have been reviewed with 14 States and Union Territories in the first phase, including Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The programme is expected to provide training to more than 3.57 lakh rural youth by December 31 next year. The scheme focuses on providing placement linked skill development opportunities to young people from poor rural households, helping them gain skills that can support their entry into employment.
Training under the scheme can range from three to 12 months, depending on the selected course and skill area. The second phase also includes an integrated digital portal designed to manage different stages of the programme, from project implementation and training to monitoring and related processes.
The digital system is intended to improve efficiency and transparency while allowing better monitoring of training activities. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to expand skill development opportunities for rural youth and connect them with employment opportunities.
