External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a series of meetings with foreign ministers during the high level session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with discussions focusing on bilateral relations as well as important regional and international developments.
Jaishankar arrived in New York on Sunday to lead the Indian delegation at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. He is scheduled to address the General Debate on September 26.
One of his key meetings was with French Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barrot. The two ministers reviewed the progress of the India France Special Global Strategic Partnership and discussed developments concerning Ukraine and the Gulf region. They also exchanged views on multilateral matters, including efforts to reform the United Nations Security Council.
Jaishankar also met Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Roberto Kury to explore ways of expanding cooperation between India and Ecuador. Their discussions covered economic relations, energy, pharmaceuticals, mobility, training of personnel, development partnership and cooperation at international forums.
During his meeting with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar, Jaishankar reviewed the bilateral agenda and discussed opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries at multilateral platforms.
The External Affairs Minister also met Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis. The two sides reviewed their economic relationship following the implementation of the India EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement. Bilateral cooperation and wider multilateral issues were also discussed.
Jaishankar additionally held talks with Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Anita Orban. Both sides agreed to work towards strengthening bilateral relations and taking forward the strategic partnership.
Apart from these meetings, Jaishankar met Nauru President David Adeang and discussed bilateral relations, economic cooperation and issues of common interest at multilateral forums.
