The India Meteorological Department has forecast the development of a low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to strengthen into a deep depression within the next 24 hours. The weather system is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha today.
Several other regions are also expected to receive heavy rain during the day. These include Jharkhand, Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya.
Along with the rainfall, thunderstorms are likely to affect several parts of the country over the next two days. The weather department has forecast lightning and strong gusty winds in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Telangana.
The developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to remain a key factor behind the unsettled weather conditions across these regions, with rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds likely to continue in several areas.
