Alibaba has announced a major expansion of its artificial intelligence programme, including plans for a new AI model that could contain between 5 trillion and 10 trillion parameters.
The planned model is expected to handle more complex tasks and longer sequences of work as the company continues its efforts to develop highly advanced artificial intelligence systems. Alibaba’s current flagship model has about 2.4 trillion parameters.
The company has also introduced a new AI processor called the Zhenwu V900. Developed by its semiconductor division, the chip is reported to offer three times the performance of its previous generation processor and can be connected in large clusters for training and operating advanced AI models.
Mass production and commercial availability of the new chip are planned for early 2027. Alibaba is also expanding its data centre infrastructure, with a target of taking its global cloud capacity beyond 20 gigawatts by 2032.
