Indian Railways has introduced KAVACH Version 4.0 on South Central Railway for the first time, marking a major development in the use of advanced safety technology across the rail network.
The latest system has been commissioned across 108 route kilometres on the Malkajgiri Kamareddi section of the Hyderabad Division. The upgrade replaces KAVACH Version 3.2 and is aimed at improving reliability, safety and train operations.
The new version includes technological improvements developed from the experience of using KAVACH Version 3.2 across more than 1,465 kilometres of South Central Railway.
KAVACH is an automatic train protection system developed in India to support safer train movement. It helps locomotive pilots maintain prescribed speed limits and can activate the brakes when necessary if the required action is not taken.
The system is also designed to reduce the chances of trains passing signals at danger, manage speed during critical situations and lower the risk of collisions. It can provide additional support for train operations during difficult weather conditions.
The commissioning of KAVACH 4.0 marks another step in expanding advanced automatic train protection technology and strengthening safety measures across the Indian railway network.
