Chicago Cubs pitcher Kevin Gausman left Wednesday’s game against the Miami Marlins after hurting his left shoulder while making a diving tag in the sixth inning.
The injury occurred as Gausman moved to cover first base during a play involving Miami. He appeared uncomfortable after completing the tag, prompting manager Craig Counsell to take him out of the game and bring Javier Assad into the contest.
Gausman said the injured shoulder was his non throwing arm and mentioned that he had previously dislocated the same shoulder during high school. He will assess how it feels after receiving treatment.
The Cubs acquired Gausman from the Toronto Blue Jays last month. He has posted a 9 and 12 record with a 4.51 ERA across 32 starts for both teams this season. With Chicago, he is 4 and 2 with a 4.83 ERA in nine starts.
