China’s 13 year old swimmer Yu Zidi completed a memorable Asian Games debut by securing her third individual gold medal. She won the women’s 400 metre individual medley in an Asian Games record time of 4 minutes 28.56 seconds.
Yu had already claimed gold in the 200 metre butterfly and 200 metre individual medley. Both of those victories also came in record breaking performances, giving her three individual titles at the Games.
In the 400 metre medley final, Yu finished 3.95 seconds ahead of fellow Chinese swimmer Ke Wenxi, who took silver. Japan’s Mio Narita secured the bronze medal.
Her latest performance also saw her break the previous Asian Games record in the event, which had been set by China’s Ye Shiwen in 2014.
