This Diwali, Patina Maldives, Fari Islands will welcome renowned Indian chef and restaurateur Atul Kochhar, the first Indian chef to be awarded a Michelin star, for an exclusive culinary residency from 7 to 9 November 2026.
For the special occasion, Kochhar will bring the culinary identity of his acclaimed London restaurant Kanishka by Atul Kochhar to the shores of the Indian Ocean. At Helios, guests will experience his contemporary interpretation of India’s rich and diverse regional cuisine, combining traditional flavours with modern culinary techniques.
Rooted in Kochhar’s deep connection with India, the menu will explore the country’s diverse regional culinary traditions through his signature approach, bringing together bold flavours, refined techniques, premium ingredients and a contemporary sensibility.
With more than three decades at the forefront of the Indian culinary scene, Kochhar has established an international reputation for his contribution to contemporary Indian cuisine. He became the first Indian chef to receive a Michelin star in 2001, followed by a second Michelin star in 2007. His culinary philosophy combines India’s rich culinary heritage and regional diversity with contemporary techniques and carefully selected ingredients.
The residency at Patina Maldives provides a distinctive setting for Kochhar’s culinary philosophy, bringing his interpretation of contemporary Indian cuisine to the Indian Ocean and the multicultural surroundings of the Fari Islands. Rather than replicating the experience of his restaurants, the residency will offer guests an opportunity to discover his culinary identity through a new setting and a special Diwali celebration.
Kochhar currently leads the Atul Kochhar Hospitality Group, with a portfolio of restaurants including Kanishka in Mayfair, Vaasa and Sindhu in Marlow, Riwaz in Beaconsfield, Masalchi in Wembley Park, Indian Essence in Petts Wood, and Essence in Tunbridge Wells.
The culinary residency forms part of Patina Maldives’ ongoing commitment to creating meaningful culinary experiences that connect guests with different cultures, perspectives and creative disciplines. Through food, the experience will invite guests to discover India’s regional culinary traditions while celebrating Diwali through the shared themes of dining, discovery and togetherness.
