SoftBank Group is raising around $11 billion through a new bond offering as it prepares to finance its further investment in OpenAI.
The planned issue includes $10 billion in dollar denominated bonds and about $1.15 billion in euro denominated notes. The funds are expected to support a $10 billion payment linked to SoftBank’s next investment in OpenAI, which is scheduled to close on October 1.
The bond sale is expected to become one of the largest corporate debt offerings in the Asia Pacific region if completed at the planned size. The company had earlier arranged a $10 billion bridge facility for the investment, which the new bonds are intended to replace.
The move highlights SoftBank’s continued focus on artificial intelligence investments as the company increases its financial commitment to the rapidly expanding AI sector.
