The West Bengal government has made procurement through the Government e Marketplace mandatory for goods and services that are available on the platform.

The state Finance Department issued a memorandum on September 23 directing departments and offices under the state government to take steps to join the GeM platform.

The move is aimed at bringing government procurement agencies onto a common digital platform and improving transparency, efficiency and cost effectiveness in the purchasing process.

All concerned departments, subordinate offices and organisations have been asked to complete the onboarding process within three months from the date of the memorandum.
