The central government has lowered the Basic Customs Duty on several crude and refined edible oils, with the revised rates taking effect from September 24.
The duty on crude soybean oil and crude palm oil has been reduced from 10 percent to 5 percent. For refined soybean and palm oils, the rate has been brought down from 32.5 percent to 27.5 percent.
The government has also removed the Basic Customs Duty on crude sunflower oil, reducing it from 10 percent to zero. The rate for refined sunflower oil has been lowered from 32.5 percent to 22.5 percent.
The decision comes as global vegetable oil prices remain elevated and India continues to rely significantly on imports to meet domestic demand. The lower duty is expected to reduce import costs and support efforts to ease pressure on edible oil prices.
