India’s Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh secured a place in the final of the mixed team 10 metre air pistol event at the Asian Games after finishing at the top of the qualification round in Nagoya, Japan.
The Indian pair began with a score of 196 in the opening series before adding 195 in the second round to reach 391. With 20 shots still remaining, they were well placed for a spot in the final. They then produced another score of 196 in the third series, taking their overall tally to 587 with 29 inner 10s. The four highest scoring pairs progressed to the final.
The qualification result gives India another opportunity to challenge for a medal in the 10 metre air pistol events after a difficult campaign in the discipline so far.
India also secured its first table tennis medal of the ongoing Games after Manush Shah and Diya Chitale reached the mixed doubles semifinals. The Indian pair defeated Hong Kong’s world number four combination of Doo Hoi Kem and Wong Chun Ting 3 to 1 in the quarterfinals.
Shah and Chitale won the contest 11 to 6, 13 to 15, 11 to 9 and 11 to 5. They will next face China’s Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin in the semifinal.
