India’s women’s kabaddi team secured the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after defeating Iran 37 to 34 in a closely fought final at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium in Aichi Nagoya.
The Indian team remained unbeaten throughout its campaign and held its nerve during a competitive final to claim the top prize.
The victory marked India’s third gold medal of the ongoing Asian Games. The earlier gold medals came from the women’s cricket team and the shooting duo of Suruchi Singh Phogat and Kamaljeet in the 10 metre air pistol mixed team event on Friday.
India’s men’s kabaddi team will take on Iran in the final later today, with the team looking to secure another gold medal for the country.
The Indian men had previously won the Asian Games kabaddi title seven consecutive times before losing their winning run in 2018. They returned to the top by capturing the gold medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.
