Tamara Leisure Experiences Targets 40-Property Portfolio as India’s Diverse Travel Trends Reshape Hospitality

Tamara Leisure Experiences (TLE) will grow from nine properties to 40 by 2030, through a ?600 crore pipeline and a 50:50 mix of owned and asset-light properties. The roadmap is built for one of the world's most varied travel landscapes, bringing experiential luxury, destination-led resorts, faith-based hospitality, Ayurveda and wellness, five-star city hotels and value-led business stays into one portfolio.

"India is an extraordinary place to build hospitality because the opportunity is not concentrated in one kind of destination or one kind of traveller," said Samir MC, CEO, Tamara Leisure Experiences. "Quiet luxury and spiritual travel are two of the fastest-growing currents in Indian tourism, and experiential stays sit at the centre of both. Travellers want to belong to a place, not simply pass through it. Our ambition is to build a group that can respond to those varied needs while allowing every experience to retain its own character. A balanced owned and asset-light model, supported by technology and AI-led guest intelligence, gives us the ability to understand the traveller better, build continuity across journeys and grow with where India is travelling next."

For Tamara Resorts, ownership is a promise to the land. As TLE moves east to Kaziranga, the brand brings its approach to experiential luxury into one of India's most storied wildlife landscapes, where the grasslands and the Assamese communities around them become the stay itself. Owning every resort lets TLE decide how gently it builds, how quickly it grows and how closely each property listens to its surroundings. It is an approach made for a luxury traveller who now values discretion over display, as India's luxury travel market grows at 10.8% annually through 2033.

That same care will extend to the resort brand's growth in the South, with a 24-houseboat luxury resort in Alleppey (2026) and a 50-key farm resort in Hosur. Wellness deepens this proposition. India's wellness tourism market is projected to reach USD 116.3 billion by 2035, growing at 15.3% annually. Amal Tamara, TLE's NABH-accredited Ayurveda hospital and retreat in Alleppey, offers the group's deepest expression of restorative luxury, while its Ayurveda expertise flows into regeneration stays across the resorts.

Further north, TLE has entered Kufri through its first asset-light signing under the Lilac brand, as better connectivity draws travellers towards the Himalayas for slower, landscape-led escapes.

Faith is where India's travel story runs deepest. Religious tourism now accounts for 60% of all domestic travel, yet pilgrimage destinations hold just 6% of the country's branded hotel keys. Rae by Tamara, India's first faith-intelligent hospitality brand, is taking the group deeper into this spiritual geography. Owned hotels in Guruvayoor and Kumbakonam are already welcoming pilgrims, with an 80-key Rae in Velankanni to follow. Asset-light signings in Tirupati, Tiruvannamalai and Palani extend the brand across some of the region's most revered temple towns. Beyond the South, Rae will begin with a 120-key hotel in Bodh Gaya and is exploring other key pilgrimage destinations such as Varanasi, Amritsar, Ajmer and more. The shift reflects a changing pilgrimage traveller, spanning senior pilgrims, multigenerational families and young seekers, for whom spiritual journeys increasingly intersect with culture and wellness.

In the west, TLE is exploring Jaipur, Pune and Ahmedabad, markets where culture, affluent domestic travel, business and leisure increasingly overlap. They are also well placed for India's MICE boom, a market expected to more than double from USD 49.4 billion in 2024 to USD 103.7 billion by 2030, as conferences, incentive travel and destination weddings move beyond the metros. O by Tamara and Lilac are built for this blend of work and leisure. A 200-key O by Tamara is under way in Whitefield, Bengaluru. A 125-key Lilac is planned alongside a 60-key Lilac in Kannur, and a dedicated wedding and events venue has taken shape in Madurai. Together, the two brands see a runway across more than 100 Indian cities.

With the South as its foundation, TLE's opportunity now lies in following this traveller across the country without making the country feel the same. From Himalayan escapes and wildlife country to pilgrimage, Ayurveda and city stays, its 40-property roadmap is ultimately a reflection of India itself, vast in geography, varied in culture and increasingly expansive in the ways it choos

es to travel.
