Malaysia has recorded one of the strongest improvements in travel and tourism development between 2024 and 2026. Its score in the latest global tourism index increased by 5.8%, placing it among the fastest improving tourism economies during the period.
The wider index found that tourism conditions strengthened across most of the 110 economies assessed. Malaysia was also among the leading improving markets in the Asia Pacific region, which recorded the strongest regional growth during the period.
The report noted that rising travel demand is also creating challenges for destinations, including pressure on infrastructure, higher costs, labour shortages and environmental concerns.
