Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill produced outstanding centuries as India defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kohli remained unbeaten on 139 from 88 balls, while Gill scored 110. Their 151 run partnership helped India chase the target of 296 in just 41.4 overs and take a 1 to 0 lead in the three match series.

Kohli's century was his 55th in ODI cricket. He also became only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to reach 15,000 ODI runs. Gill recorded his 10th ODI century before being dismissed for 110.

Earlier, West Indies scored 295 for seven in their 50 overs. Justin Greaves made 101, while John Campbell contributed 62. For India, Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets for 40 runs and was named Player of the Match. Prasidh Krishna claimed two wickets and Nitish Kumar Reddy took one.
