AMD has agreed to acquire artificial intelligence company World Labs in an all stock transaction valued at about 8.2 billion dollars.
World Labs was founded by prominent AI researcher Fei Fei Li and focuses on spatial intelligence, an area aimed at helping artificial intelligence systems understand and reason about three dimensional environments and physical interactions.
The acquisition will give AMD access to World Labs’ research and technology as the chipmaker expands its work across AI hardware, software and advanced models. The technology has potential applications in areas such as robotics, simulation and design.
Following the completion of the deal, Fei Fei Li will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist, reporting to Chief Executive Lisa Su. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
