A high level meeting was held in Delhi to review preparations for tackling air pollution during the coming winter months. Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the pollution control action plan, including steps already taken, their implementation and further measures needed before and during winter.
The plan includes enforcement of the No PUCC, No Fuel rule at fuel stations equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems. From November 1 to January 31, demolition work that generates dust and outdoor civil construction activities will remain completely prohibited. Authorities will also run a public awareness campaign to encourage the use of the Delhi Metro Sarthi App for better last mile connectivity.
The government plans to expand plantation activities and increase green cover in identified brown areas. The Winter Protocol will provide for restrictions on polluting vehicles, increased parking fees, staggered working hours for offices and work from home arrangements.
Measures will also be taken to promote the EV Policy 2026 and Parivartan Scheme through registration campaigns and Jan Bhagidari Camps. The Union Environment Minister directed officials to conduct Jan Bhagidari programmes at all 37 identified pollution hotspots in Delhi by October 10.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stressed that the decisions taken during the meeting should be followed by proper implementation so that the planned measures produce effective results on the ground.
