The Directorate general of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has restricted the number of flights that can be operated by Spice Jet to 50% of its capacity. This comes in the back drop of numerous technical snags faced by the airline. On numerous occasions the aircraft either turned back to its originating station or landed at its destination with degraded safety margins. The DGCA implied that the airline was not operating under prescribed safety standards. The regulator also found that the airline had delayed payments to its suppliers leading to shortage of spares. Until the issues raised by DGCA are resolved, Spice Jet will be under “Enhanced Surveillance” by the regulator.
