Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that during the Union Public Service Commission’s 100 year journey, generations, governments, technology and examination syllabi have undergone changes, while public confidence in the institution has remained strong.
Speaking at the centenary celebrations of the Union Public Service Commission at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the importance of bringing young people into public services who are motivated by the spirit of serving the public rather than seeking public office. He said that India in the 21st century is progressing with a new work culture based on the principles of Pro People, Pro Active and Good Governance.
Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Union Public Service Commission has reached several important milestones and introduced new dimensions during the past twelve years. He noted that government appointments through the commission have increased, while greater transparency in the recruitment process has helped strengthen public confidence.

He added that the commission has emerged as a model for recruitment agencies in India and around the world.
The programme concluded a year long series of celebrations that began on 1 October last year to mark 100 years since the establishment of the Union Public Service Commission in 1926.
During the event, Prime Minister Modi released a commemorative coin marking the centenary of the Union Public Service Commission, along with a commemorative stamp and a book titled 100 Landmark Judgements Shaping the Policies of UPSC and Public Service Commissions in India.
