Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministerial in Milwaukee as India and the United States continue efforts to reach a balanced and mutually beneficial trade agreement.
Before his US visit, the Commerce Ministry had said that Goyal would hold discussions with Greer on taking forward negotiations for the bilateral trade agreement.
The meeting took place a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump spoke by telephone to review progress in bilateral cooperation covering trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and other areas of mutual interest.
The Commerce Ministry said on Monday that Goyal would also hold bilateral discussions with his US counterpart as part of ongoing efforts to advance the India US Bilateral Trade Agreement and work towards an interim deal in line with the Joint Statement issued on 7 February 2026.
India and the United States announced in February that they had finalised the framework for the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement. Further negotiations have continued following changes in the tariff structure in the United States.
