Pranavi Urs created history by becoming the first Indian woman golfer to win a gold medal at the Asian Games. She maintained a narrow one stroke advantage in the final round to secure the title and also contributed to India’s team silver medal.
The 23 year old golfer from Mysore recovered strongly after a difficult start in the final round. A triple bogey on the third hole erased her three stroke overnight lead, but she responded with three birdies to regain control.
Urs finished the final round at even par 70 and ended the four day competition with a total score of 15 under 265, finishing one stroke ahead of her closest challengers.
Her performance also played an important role in India’s team silver winning effort alongside Aditi Ashok, who scored 67 in the final round, and Diksha Dagar, who finished with 77.
Urs’s gold was India’s first gold medal in Asian Games golf since Shiv Kapur won the men’s individual title in 2002.
