British Indian chess prodigy Bodhana Sivanandan has been recognised as the youngest chess player to achieve the Woman Grandmaster title. The 11 year old schoolgirl from London created history at the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, by becoming the youngest player ever to earn the prestigious WGM title.
The achievement has given Bodhana her third Guinness World Records title. She had earlier set records as the youngest chess Woman International Master and the youngest female player to defeat a grandmaster in a chess tournament.
Bodhana described the recognition as a great honour and said it has given her additional motivation to keep improving and aim for further achievements.
Her chess journey began when she was five years and eight months old after she developed a strong interest in the knight chess piece. She began competing in tournaments and went on to win competitions by the age of six.
Guinness World Records Editor in Chief Craig Glenday praised Bodhana’s journey, describing it as an inspiring example of how curiosity and passion during childhood can lead to remarkable achievements.
